Yesterday was a big day for me! I voted first thing in the morning and then headed to the Rockaways to help with Sandy Relief. It took about three hours to get there, using subway and bus. Once there, I spent much of the time working with a group from a church in Chelsea called Dream Center. I also checked out one of the Occupy Sandy hubs, where OWS activists are leading the #sandyrelief charge.
I've just posted an entry at the Kitchen Sink blog about all my own volunteer efforts in the wake of the storm, complete with a couple dozen pictures taken this past week, especially yesterday.
I also posted an entry last week about Word Up and a new arts organization in the neighborhood called United Palace of Cultural Arts. WU is starting a fund-raising campaign tomorrow, for which I'll be providing many more details in the next week.
On the Matt 6:24 blog, I wrote an entry for these Munich-based artists who hope to raise the funds needed via Kickstarter for a digital magazine about Couch-Surfing called SOFA. Please support them soon, as time is quickly running out!
I'll begin work on a GioSafari homepage today and otherwise keep the blog posts coming. I've had a few Good Morning Joe ideas in the past few months, just haven't got around to typing them up yet.
To wrap up, I just want to ask again that you keep the people of Rockaway Beach, Staten Island, and New Jersey in your thoughts and prayers. It's very bad in these areas still and there's another big storm today with lots of wind, rain, snow (it's really coming down outside my window right now), and storm surge. Hopefully I'll be out to help them next Tuesday as well.
