How did I end up in Harlem? NYC?
Well much has happened since 2007 and I'm about due for another installment! Here it is, a note to my future self..
It's amazing how much can happen in just four years, huh? I've gone to Thailand and France, graduated from UCF, been hit by a car and lived to tell about it, wrote and recorded a few albums' worth of music, toured and couch surfed the country multiple times, hiked the Grand Canyon, moved to NYC, become a freegan and busker. And I'm not sure I could have anticipated in 2007 that I would ever attempt to pursue a career in music.
But who knows.. maybe you've hit the big time by now. OR (more likely, perhaps) you've been roused from such pipe's dreams. Maybe you've found the right girl, got a conventional job, planted a church, settled down, moved to Chicago. Or some combination of these.
Nothing wrong with that. Lord knows I can't live this way forever - as a songwriting, couchsurfing, hitchhiking, peace loving activist, freegan and busker - and I don't even want to. I mean, I do love this suff, but I also recognize that this is only a season. Who knows for how long?! Perhaps you know by now...
Regardless, whatever you do, have done, or are doing - for the love of God, DON'T SELL OUT. Don't sell your soul, don't lose faith and hope in what REALLY matters, and never worship mammon. Keep spray painting the kingdom of God on the walls of this tunnel called life. Keep shaking the can and drawing inspiration from your Muse - even if the object of this metaphor changes drastically over the years.
Occupy life, pray and work for shalom in whichever city you find yourself, and be ever mindful to join God in the renewal of all things. In this way you'll #occupythekingdom soon enough!
Catch you on the flip side.. Peace,
