After starting at Darling, that schedule was out the window. And I totally lost my groove.
Of course, that's not to say that I haven't been productive! In the mean time I've released my debut full-length album Heliotropism; I've posted regularly on this blog, written new music, made new videos; and I've even been on the hunt for a new apartment in the neighborhood. But my schedule has definitely lacked structure and I've not been nearly as productive as I would like.
1) Blog posts. My goal is to post at least 3 or 4 blog entries every week. I mean, I have four different blog sites, so that shouldn't be too difficult - about one post per blog per week. This past week I wrote two entries.
The first is a book review on my Kitchen Sink blog for a yet-unreleased work by a gay Christian author. It's called TORN: Rescuing the Gospel From the Gays-vs-Christians Debate. I address the so-called cultural war as I experience it in my own life and relate it back to the book, which is scheduled to hit shelves in November.
I wrote the second piece for Matt 6:24, explaining how/why I came to create a bandcamp page for my music, where it can be downloaded for free (or for a tip!)
2) Packaging Heliotropism. I plan to issue 200 physical CD copies of my new album with very special hand-crafted packaging that takes a lot of time and effort to put together. But it's totally worth it because they are beautiful! I'm sure that you will agree :) When my favorite community bookshop Word Up opens again, I'll hold an album release show and these physical CDs will finally be available. You will also be able to order them online at that time. In the mean time, you can download the album for free or leave a tip at my bandcamp page (linked above).
3) Online marketing, PR, & social media. Primarily, I would like to find music writers and editors to review my album and post it up on blogs and other sites all over the internet. Print reviews would be great too! To be perfectly honest, I have no idea what I'm doing with this. But I know that it's necessary. I'm looking to hire an intern to help me out (seriously).
I'm also looking to expand my fanbase through more efficient and targeted use of online social media and resources. In the past couple months I've started an instagram account (@giosafari), I've begun using HootSuite (an app that enhances twitter usage), and I'm returning to Reddit. In the next few weeks I'll also work on a home page for GioSafari (can't believe I haven't had one all this time!).
4) At Your Request - Recording Phase. In June/July I took nominations for the second annual cover album project. I'm now learning the songs to be recorded in November and December. The songs will be released on my NoiseTrade page and YouTube on inauguration day. I'll show you all what democracy really looks (and sounds) like!
Ah, feels good to be back in the groove :)
