On October 9th this year, John Lennon, one of my biggest influences both in terms of songwriting and peacemaking/activism is turning 75 years old. So I thought I'd celebrate this milestone by releasing a tribute album in his memory. Titled I Am The Walrus, the album will feature over twenty songs from Lennon's prolific songwriting career and is slated for release on his birthday.
Since Lennon is remembered primarily for his work with the 60s rock sensation The Beatles -- indeed, there will be many such songs on this album -- I also wanted to pay tribute to his post-Beatles career, especially where it intersected with his quirky peace activism and performance art with Yoko Ono (such as their honeymoon antics). Studying this time of his life has been immensely inspiring and instructive; I now walk in his footsteps and declare that I, too, Am The Walrus as I continue to work out my place in society as artist and agitator for peace.
My good friend and colleague, Zachary Corsa of Lost Trail (you may remember him as the fellow who co-produced and engineered my debut full-length album Heliotropism) will be lending a hand with that piece, as well as contributing guitar and many other sound effects on the more psychedelic numbers. Speaking of, I hope you'll have a listen to this sneak peek, an early (still rough) cover of Because, by The Beatles (credited to Lennon/McCartney, but written primarily by Lennon).
Please stay tuned for many more details on the album and release party in the next few weeks!
We couldn't be more grateful for the help that you all gave us in our time of need. Thank you!
