On Monday I met with a couple of film makers who are doing a documentary about subway performers. They captured footage of me playing on the F platform at Delancey/Essex, as well as an on-camera interview.
Today GioSafari performed at the Brooklyn Peace Fair, where I represented with Pax Americana and a couple Against Me! covers. The event was great! Video coming soon!
I spend about an hour a day scouring craigslist for potential gigs. I responded to an ad a couple weeks ago to play drums for a hip-hop group. I did not yet know the name of the group, nor had I heard any of their songs. But I figured I'd take a chance anyway. Turns out, this is who I had contacted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H1Fu1mEb8E
I met with them for a rehearsal last night and it went great. If everything works out, we'll be playing a huge NYC gig in June. More details soon to come!
I was one of the few artists who actually showed up to today's Peace Fair on time. So I ended up performing first, even though I was scheduled to play much later. The band that played immediately after me was a folk/punk/blues duo called The Last Internationale. Towards the end of the event, we happened to be leaving at the same exact time and a conversation was struck up between myself and one of the members.
The end of that conversation went something like this:
"You wouldn't happen to be a drummer, would you?"
"Actually, I am."
"Great, well we're about to go rehearse with a new bass player. Wanna come?"
We spent the following two hours rehearsing their material. I look forward to playing with them more in the near future! Hopefully I'll have more updates in this vein soon!
Things are happening.
Much thanks to Sol.illaquists for providing the background music =)
