I was loosely involved with OFNB when I lived in Orlando and I made many friends there. One of them can be seen in this video, declaring the fundamental truth that (especially in a culture of such abundance, luxury, and waste) food is a right, not a privilege!
He sent me a message this morning:
Two Wednesdays ago there was three arrested, last Monday four were arrested including myself, and just yesterday five more were arrested. The charge is for defying the large group feeding ordinance. We all spent at least a day in jail, but oddly found out that most people in jail were supportive, anywhere from inmates to the correctional officers, even some of OPD's finest said that the arrests were pointless and we should keep doing what we do.
We've been gaining tons of support from people all over the world. There was a petition started by Japan, coverage about the arrests in Britain; it's all really awesome. We're fundraising for bail money as of right now as we continue to "stir the pot". If you know of anyone that has some ducks that they're willing to throw down you can direct them to orlandofoodnotbombs.org. Other then that just spreading the word about the city's unending fight to criminalize poverty would be of great help.
