The year is 2016, I'm back from holiday, and I've hit the ground running! There's tons to report from 2015 and plenty of plans to lay out for the next year as well; I'll post all of that and more in the next few weeks, to be sure.
But for now, I'd just like to give an update on my Uptown Music Lessons (@musicuptown on twitter & facebook), since there was a ton of progress in the past couple months. In November, I submitted a deal on Groupon. I hoped that it would be available for purchase by Thanksgiving, but due to some complications, it didn't go live until December. The deal hasn't garnered much business for me yet, but I understand that it takes a while (up to 60 days) after the deals are out the gates for them to really take off.
In the mean time, I've created a bunch of instructional videos and posted them to my Uptown Music Lessons website. I started with the musical concept that I felt best represented the intersection of basic (as in, easy to comprehend) and essential -- chords. In the following weeks, I released four more videos for guitar beginners and two more that covered music theory principles.
While there's been much progress in the past year, there's still a ton of room for improvement. I still hope for these lessons to become a viable source of income for me and my family (not there quite yet), and I'm taking things very seriously here. In December, I attended an artists workshop that explained the ins and outs of starting a business as an entertainer -- registering a new business through the IRS; managing business bank and credit accounts; bookkeeping; getting headshots and shopping them around to clients and agents. I learned much from the workshop, which I'm using to advance other aspects of my career as an artist and entertainer (and on which I'll go into further detail in a future blog post); but I've also used much of this info to legitimize my music lesson business and I'm very optimistic about where things are headed!
So look out for me and my Uptown Music Lessons in 2016. This is my year!
